Changes in your circumstances that could affect your Council Tax Reduction
If your situation or circumstances change in any way, you must let us know straight away.
The sort of changes we will need to know about relate to any of the information you gave us when you first applied. If you are not sure whether a change is relevant please complete the form, highlighting the changes.
Tell us of a change in circumstances
For example, you must tell us if:
- any of your children leave school or college or leave home
- anyone moves into or out of your home, including lodgers and subtenants
- there are any changes in your (or your partner's) income or the source of your income, such as:
- you start to get a Social Security benefit
- you stop getting a Social Security benefit
- your earnings increase or your hours at work increase or reduce
- your Tax Credits change or you start to get or you stop getting Tax Credits
- a pension from a previous employer changes or you start to get a pension from a previous employer
- the income of any adults or children living with you stops, starts or changes, this includes any benefits
- tour capital or savings change
- you or anyone living with you
- become a student or stop being a student
- go on or stop being on a Youth Training Scheme
- go into or leave hospital or a nursing home - when you leave hospital you may be able to get other benefits depending upon the effect your condition has upon your life - you can talk to a social worker based at the hospital who will be able to tell you about possible benefits (call on 01582 497142 / 497179)
- go into or come out of prison
- change or leave a job
- your rent changes but not if you are a council tenant
- you move, including a change of room in the same property
- you or your partner are going to be away from home for 13 weeks or more
- you or anyone living with you start work
- you receive any decision from the Home Office
- anything else you have told us about changes
You're responsible for telling us about any changes. Do not rely on someone else to pass the message on.
If you receive benefits you're not entitled to, you'll be asked to pay it back.
If you deliberately fail to tell us about any changes that may affect your benefit, we may take court action against you.
